Scotland's Futures Forum was created by the Scottish Parliament to help its Members, along with policy makers, businesses, academics, and the wider community of Scotland, look beyond immediate horizons, to some of the challenges and opportunities we will face in the future. Looking beyond the 4 year electoral cycle and away from party politics, the forum seeks to stimulate public debate in Scotland, bringing fresh perspectives, ideas and creativity on how we might prepare now for the future. Scotland’s Futures Forum has linked with Beltane Public Engagement Network to support and enhance University/Parliament engagement on topics which are not party political in nature but which mutually improve understanding of long term issues and opportunities in the sphere of higher education.
Scotland’s Futures Forum recently hosted a Beltane Public Engagement Fellow with expertise in the area of online and distance learning, Dr Jen Ross from the University of Edinburgh. As part of her fellowship, she introduced Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs) to the Scottish Parliament, through a series of events, a web resource, and an invitation to participate in a MOOC. One of the key things to emerge from these activities was an interest in the potential for MOOCs to support professional and personal development.
As a result, advice about and access to MOOCs is now available here.
